No ugly duckling here!

My office complex has a large population of Canada Geese. They live near the pond behind our building and wander around the office park as if they owned it. It’s not uncommon to get a scolding from a goose or two as you walk from your car to the door, or to see one perched on the roof watching everyone arrive at 8:00am.

The best part, however, is the Spring when the baby geese appear! This little fellow is about 4 days old and was strolling around with his parents and 5 siblings. This is the first time I’ve seen them venture across the parking lot to the pond this year. Luckily, most of the employees around here are aware of the local wildlife and will stop traffic to let them cross when neccessary.

Testing the Tamron 28-75 2.8

A coworker is selling one of his lenses and let me borrow it for a bit. I took some test shots around my desk this afternoon to see what it can do. This one came out really nice, just natural lighting from two windows, one to the rear and one on the left. Ignore my chicken scratch writing in the background… :)   A few more test shots can be viewed here.

Ms. Woodpecker

Spent my lunch hour at the bird feeders taking pictures. This female woodpecker stopped in to grab a peanut or two.

Vita Tranquilla Italiana

Gorgeous fresh tomatoes, crusty Italian bread and rich, aged Parmigiano-Reggiano. It doesn’t get much better than that!

(I was actually just slicing the tomatoes for hamburgers, but they looked picture perfect so I grabbed the bread and cheese to add to the ambience of the photo.. Wish I’d had some fresh basil to add a burst of green to the picture…)

At the zoo…

Yesterday was a beautiful day to be outside, so I took a trip to Potter Park Zoo to enjoy the weather and take some pics with my new lens.

I had a lot of fun and really got to give the 100-400mm lens a good workout! My wrist got a workout as well, holding up that heavy lens for several hours!
